Hi. I’m
Moneeza.

I’m a therapist, paediatric social worker, writer, and speaker based in Ontario.

At home
in the rain.

I was born and raised on the West Coast and spent much of my life in Vancouver and the Lower Mainland, with the steady companionship of rain. It was the backdrop to my formative years, and I learned to find deep solace in its pitter-patter.

I eventually left the mountains behind for Toronto, where I attended U of T and settled down. I call both places home.

My path to therapy
wasn’t a straight line.

I started out working with kids with autism and other support needs. From there, I became a little obsessed with learning as much as I could about trauma and mental health. Perhaps part of me wanted to understand these things well enough to make sense of them, not only for myself, but for people dear to me who had been affected by them.

When I began my master’s in social work, I was sure I wouldn’t work with kids. I thought I would focus on adults. But the more I learned about adult problems and adult pain, the more I understood how formative our early years are, and how childhood experiences can shape the lens through which we see, experience, and move through the world.

That understanding led me to SickKids, where I completed my practicum and now work part-time as a paediatric social worker supporting children and families. Alongside that role, I provide therapy through a group practice. I’ve continued training in trauma work, including EMDR. I still love working with kids, and I also support adults navigating trauma, grief, loss, and the complicated business of being human.

Human first.
Always.

I draw from CBT, DBT, parts work, EMDR, somatic, and psychodynamic approaches. Those frameworks matter, but so does the person sitting across from me. I use humour when it fits, and I try not to get so caught up in doing therapy that I lose the human connection in the process.

If I had to sum up my therapy style, I would say this: I believe every soul has something special in it, and that sometimes our deepest sorrows can make space for even greater joys.

I consider it a privilege to walk alongside my clients as they find their way through.

Always a
work in progress.

Outside of being a therapist, I’m an aunty, or “miya,” to my beloved nieces, who teach me so much about life.

When I’m not doing therapy, I’m usually cuddling my cat, Benjie, writing, painting, baking, knitting, watching TV, searching for my next juicy read, or spending time with family and friends.

A little more
about my work.

I’m a registered social worker (MSW, RSW), and I currently see clients through Attached Kids.
